Devoted to inspiring confidence in performing arts

Shene Stage School is devoted to inspiring confidence in performing arts whilst maintaining a relaxed and friendly environment in which students can work and socialise.

All our teachers are fully qualified and have extensive experience in all elements of their chosen field. By offering sessions in Drama, Music and Dance, we aim to nurture their talents, self-confidence and enthusiasm. We pride ourselves on getting to know each child individually and help them achieve their own personal goals.

Shene Stage School operates weekly on a Saturday morning, from 10 am to 1 pm. The morning consists of four sessions, in between sessions, a short break of fifteen minutes occurs, in which biscuits are provided and the children are given a chance to relax and ‘cool down’ between classes.

Music

Music is taught by Rosa who is a versatile actor musician, musical director and singer. She has performed in numerous shows since graduating from Mountview in 2018. These credits include Blitz! (Union theatre) Jack and the Beanstalk (Churchill studio theatre), The Tales of Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-duck (Wilton’s music hall) and Peter Pan (St Alban’s arena). Rosa is currently performing as Hansel in Hansel and Gretel around South West England on a tour with Crescendo productions, playing Beethoven music on accordion, piano and clarinet. As suggested from their credits, Rosa is passionate about children’s theatre, and loves working with the kids at Shene stage school!

Drama

Drama is taught by Sophie Hallett who has been teaching drama for over 20 years. The lessons are very much a collaborative process. The children and Sophie work closely together to create work developed as a group. The emphasis is for the children to feel in control of what they are doing and for Sophie to guide them to the end result. They write scripts together and work on improvisation (a definite favourite) as well as physical theatre, vocal technique, mime, mask work and above all else helping the children to feel great about who they are and what they do.

Dance

Dance is taught by Lucy Ward, Lucy graduated from Performance Preparation Academy with a diploma in musical theatre in 2020, having previously trained for 1 year at Urdang Academy.

She caught the performing bug at a young age and has been dancing since she was 3. She has even spent a year working at Godalming college in the performing arts department (after having previously studied there) which enabled her to really push her skill to the next level and gain lots of experience with older students.

Lucy has lots of experience teaching children of all different ages to dance, covering many different styles. Lucy thinks the most important thing to remember in her class is to have fun and the rest will come with practise.
