"Henry started at Shene Stage School when he was 6 years old. Not being massively into sport at that age, it gave him an opportunity to develop skills in alternative areas of interest to him. His confidence increased as each term passed and he relished the chance to dance to Michael Jackson, sing songs from West End musicals and write scripts to perform with his fellow students. He is now 12, and still enjoys his 3 hours on a Saturday morning, as much for meeting up with friends as for singing, acting and dancing. The quality of teaching is exceptional, and as a parent who has watched at least 15 end of term shows, I'm continually impressed by the dedication and commitment shown by Sophie and the team. Henry has gone on to perform at the Rose Theatre in Kingston, in school plays, has auditioned for films and has just landed the lead in a musical at the Richmond Theatre. All these achievements are in no small part due to the experience and confidence that he has gained through his 6 years at Shene Stage School. Everyone is given the opportunity to shine, regardless of natural talent, and it is this fair and equal philosophy, that makes Shene Stage School stand out from some of the more competitive performing arts groups. "I joined Shene Stage School when I was just eight years old. It feels like a long time ago now, but I will still remember my very first lesson. It was Singing, and I remember how very nervous I was beforehand, about meeting new people and trying new things. Yet I also remember how instantly comfortable, relaxed and above all excited I was by the end of that first lesson. I then spent a very happy eight years worth of Saturday mornings, continuing to be excited by every lesson, learning so much about the different skills from expert teachers, making so many new and lasting friends, being given amazing opportunities to perform outside of the classroom, and most of all, having fun. I felt myself grow in confidence, not just as a singer, dancer, actor or writer, but as a person, helped by a fantastically encouraging environment and amazing staff. Eleven years later and I'm still there! Having left for a very, very brief period of time when I was sixteen, I immediately missed the place and the people and desperately wanted to come back to help out. Over the last couple of years, I have had the privilege of watching children go through the very same experience, either coming out of their shell or learning to channel their talent and enthusiasm. I've learnt so much, I wouldn't have missed it for the world."

"Safia has been going to Shene Stage School for 5 years. She is now 13 and runs in every Saturday with as much enthusiasm as when she started! Although she didn't know any other children there originally, she was immediately welcomed and included in all the discussions about what they might work on each week, and has made some great friends. The children are encouraged to develop their own ideas and write small scenes and sometimes songs between themselves. Being given this freedom of expression has amazing results, not only for the confidence of each child but also in the end of term shows where you can clearly see the humour and character of the children coming out rather than them just performing a well known script. The teaching staff are wonderful, and are an inspiration to the children. They manage to combine great fun with adventurous ideas in an atmosphere where everyone is not only listened to, but heard."
